Notre Dame was unbeaten since the beginning of the 1929 season, while Southern Cal had suffered a loss, yet the oddsmakers that day had installed USC as a small favorite. Perhaps the Trojans' wins over Cal (74-0), Hawaii (53-0) and Washington (32-0) in the previous three weeks had something to do with that. But what do oddsmakers know? Southern Cal never had a prayer, as Notre Dame concluded Rockne's final season with another National Championship and its second straight unbeaten run.
