In what was to prove to be the last hurrah for a great football program, the Broncos capped an amazing year by beating Bear Bryant's Kentucky Wildcats on New Year's Day in Miami. Prior to this, Santa Clara had ended its regular season with a narrow loss to Bud Wilkinson's Oklahoma Sooners, who were in the middle of a 31 game winning streak.

Unfortunately, the rise of two platoon football and the growing cost of maintaining a major program forced the Broncos to drop the sport after the 1952 season, but it was a glorious run while it lasted.
