Having just completed a fine 9 and 1 season, the Green Wave carried over their success into the first Sugar Bowl, where they plied the unbeaten Temple Owls with bourbon and beignets, spotted them 14 points, and then came roaring back in the second half to capture a 20 to 14 thriller. The Tulane eleven was rewarded with a Dixieland Band victory parade through the French Quarter, while each member of the losing Owl squad was given a delicious praline ice cream cone and a Greyhound ticket back to Philadelphia.
