College football in the pre-World War II era offers many surprises to the 21st century historian, but few can match the shock of going over the schedule of the 1934 Longhorns. The final 7-2-1 record would be about what you might expect, but what do you think of beating Notre Dame (in their first meeting ever) and Oklahoma in successive weeks, only to turn around and lose to Centenary and Rice? And from there you saw that the Longhorns went unbeaten, and finished by walloping Arkansas and our old rivals, the Aggies? You'd probably check the contents of that bottle by your bedside, but this was indeed the journey of the Texas Longhorns in that Dust Bowl year of 1934.
