The subtle touches in some of these program covers were more apparent at the time than they are now. Attentive Gothamites would have caught the headlights of an approaching subway that were reflected on the tiles in the Dartmouth half of the mosaic. The teams' names were rendered in this manner in tribute to the style of the mosaic patterns that were on all of the New York City subway stops, and the glow of the headlights was the perfect final touch. One of master illustrator Lon Keller's finest works.
