While this was the 22nd meeting between the Hoosiers and the Boilermakers in a rivalry that extended back to 1899, this was the first time that the prize was not just pride, but an old oaken bucket that came from the Bruner family farm in Southern Indiana. Fittingly enough, the game ended in a scoreless tie, and so the first link on the now 87-year old chain that hangs from the bucket was a combined "I" and "P" rather than one or the other.
