With due respect to some of the Volunteer teams of later years, this 1938 squad of General Bob Neyland still ranks second to none as Knoxville's most successful eleven. Eleven games, eleven wins, the last five of them shutouts, capped with a convincing whitewashing of previously undefeated Oklahoma in one of the best matchups in the history of that event. And just to show it wasn't a fluke, the Vols swept through the 1939 regular season without allowing a single point, making it an unbelievable streak of fifteen straight shutouts.
